5.2/10

During my stay at The Grand Scarborough, I was taken aback by its historical charm, but it was overshadowed by several issues. While the location near the beach is fantastic, the cleanliness and comfort aspects left a lot to be desired. With some attentive staff moments and decent breakfast offerings, there's potential, yet I couldn't quite overlook the numerous shortcomings.

Rooms
5.0
My room, while promising in size, had a broken bed and cleanliness problems that made my sleep quite uncomfortable (definitely not ideal after a long journey).
Service
5.0
The staff on the reception were friendly but inconsistent; I felt let down by their slow check-in process and lack of actions regarding my room issues (at times, I wished for quicker resolutions).
Location
5.0
The hotel's prime location right on the seafront was a major plus for me, allowing easy access to the beach and nearby attractions (definitely a highlight of my stay).
Dining
5.0
Breakfast was quite basic, but the options were plentiful, even if the food was lukewarm and lacked finesse (it felt more like a school dinner than a restaurant experience).
Facilities
5.0
Despite some issues, I appreciated the spacious common areas and the engaging lobby atmosphere, which provided a nice setting to relax (though it all felt a bit outdated).

5.4/10

Staying at The Grand Scarborough had its ups and downs. I loved the hotel's historical character and central location near the beach, but was disappointed with the room conditions and cleanliness. The staff was helpful, although I experienced some inconsistency in service. Overall, it seemed like a place with potential, but it needs considerable improvement.

Rooms
5.0
The first room I received was a letdown, with noticeable cleanliness issues like dirty carpets and an unwashed coffee cup. I was moved to another room that was slightly better but still had mold in the bathroom and a few other cleanliness concerns. It's clear that the rooms vary quite a bit in condition.
Service
5.0
While I found the reception staff friendly at times, my experience was marred by a lack of service checks before check-in. I did appreciate the manager's genuine concern when I raised my complaints, which provided a bit of reassurance.
Location
8.0
The location was one of the highlights, being close to beautiful beach areas and attractions. It was easy to enjoy walks along the promenade during my stay.
Dining
6.0
Breakfast was a mixed bag but generally decent, with a hot and plentiful selection. I did enjoy some of the homemade pastries that were available.
Facilities
5.0
The hotel featured large public areas, which were great for socializing, and had some live entertainment options that I enjoyed. However, the lift issues were inconvenient, especially on a couple of occasions during my stay.

6.2/10

Staying at The Grand Scarborough was quite an experience. The stunning historical architecture caught my attention right away, but the overall condition of the hotel left much to be desired. While I appreciated the location near the beach and some spacious communal areas, the issues with cleanliness and maintenance were quite disappointing.

Rooms
5.0
The room I was assigned was far from clean. I found holes in the ceiling and door, while the bathroom had black mould. It felt like I was in a shabby shed rather than a hotel.
Service
5.0
I didn't find the service welcoming. Upon arrival, I felt rushed, with no guidance on breakfast or directions. Also, my attempts to address my concerns were met with indifference.
Location
5.0
The location is definitely a plus. It's a short walk to the Scarborough south bay beach, which is great for enjoying the sea.
Dining
5.0
I was looking forward to the dining options, but the carvery dinner was disappointing. It seemed unappetizing and lacked variety, with no vegetarian choices available.
Facilities
5.0
While some common areas were impressive, the overall facilities felt outdated and poorly maintained. This was evident in the condition of the carpets and the general ambience throughout the hotel.

7.4/10

My recent stay at The Grand Scarborough had its ups and downs. While the entertainment was enjoyable and the meals offered plenty of choice, my room had several issues, including cleanliness and inadequate facilities. Despite these challenges, the location and historical charm made it a nice visit; however, improvements are definitely needed.

Rooms
5.0
I encountered significant issues with my room. Upon arrival, it was freezing, and I found it filthy with dust and unflushed toilet issues. Although I eventually got moved to a different room, it lacked a proper view and I dealt with a noisy radiator throughout the night.
Service
5.0
The reception service could use improvement. While some staff were friendly, others were less accommodating, especially when I raised concerns about the initial room.
Location
8.0
The hotel is well-located near the beach, making it convenient for seaside activities. I appreciated being close to all that Scarborough has to offer.
Dining
7.0
The dining options were fairly enjoyable, with a variety of choices at both breakfast and dinner. I appreciated that the meals were hot and plentiful, adding to my overall satisfaction during my stay.
Facilities
5.0
The facilities need attention; the room condition and noise issues detracted from the overall experience. I also noticed dead flies in the dining area, which was off-putting.
